Under the Provision and Use of Work Equipment Regulations 1998 employers are required to ‘ensure that all persons who use work equipment have received adequate training for purposes of health and safety. Reach Truck Conversion Courses are normally conducted shortly after a successful Novice Counter Balance Course has been taken.

These courses can be provided in-house or alternatively as an ITSARR (Independent Training Standards Scheme and Register) accredited course. Registration fees apply.

Aims and Objectives:
This course is designed to train individuals in the safe operation of reach trucks' in the workplace and to educate the candidate in the understanding of safe lifting practices.
Course content:
~ Some limited theory by way of powerpoint and educational films and discussion.
~ Theory test question paper consisting of 20 multichioce questions and 5 open questions.
~ Instruction on pre shift inspection.
~ Pre shift check test the candidate must show the ability to complete a pre shift check on all major components.
~ Some limited practical training consisting of steering and maneuvering around a course, lifting and stacking at varied heights.
~ Practical test of competency.
Important information
Although not required by law, it is strongly recommended by governing Health and Safety bodies that a conversion course test is taken for operators currently holding a nationally recognised Counterbalance Forklift certificate. This not only covers yourself as an employer but helps to keep safety at the forefront of your employees’ thoughts.
Course duration:
1 day - 1-3 x candidates depending on experience.
